Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” The Message translation says it this way….”Pointyour kids in the right direction-, when they are old they won’t be lost.” There are two aspects of this scripture: a command and a promise. Our job is to do all we possibly can to “train” our children to grow up to be mature, well functioning, God serving adults. If we bring them up the way the Word of God tells us to, we can expect to be successful parents.

It is important to build a strong spiritual foundation for them so that when they are older they will turn to God for their help and strength. As they grow up, we will not always be able to meet their needs, but we can point them toward our God with Whom nothing is impossible. Let me encourage you to take them to church, teach them about God’s Word and how to pray. Those things will be a strength to them even when you are not around.
